Real or Fake

I love art that makes you do a double take. When I stumbled across artist Carli Waito's stunning crystal and mineral oil paintings, I couldn't look away. If you are in Toronto, make sure to stop by her exhibit, The Dazzle, at the Narwhal Art Project. In the mean team, take a peek at these gems...

Just Can't Get Enough (Jewelry)!

Vice & Vanity, is yet another jewelry line with eclectic, statement making pieces that I currently love.

Developed in 2006 by Vivi Lim and Aaron Kao, each piece takes on an aah-inspiring personality for the eccentric wearer to flaunt.

Their latest collection ONI, is a mixture of modern, asymmetric designs accented with colorful feathers and fringe that hint towards a Native American aesthetic.

The line is available at a few online stores listed on their site.

don't leave home without it

i'm posting from chania, crete this week. i'm here on a job, but i would really describe it as a "work-cation". somehow sailing on the aegean to a secret beach doesn't really feel like work. i always try to pack light and leave room in my suitcase for any treasures i find while out shopping, so anything i bring has to have multiple purposes. like the hammam towel i picked up at john derian a few years ago- so far it's been my blanket on the plane, scarf in the cold temperatures of early morning, towel after swims, and sarong. i love that it takes up so little room in my bag. and, i love how it looks hanging in my bathroom at home. one thing i've noticed is the really get much softer and absorbent after many washings, so don't be surprised if they feel like "it's wiping you hand on a leaf" (as my husband put it) at first. trust me, after the fourth or fifth washing you'll be sold. i've seen similar towels at abc, brook farm general store, and layla, but l'aviva home has some at the best price and most beautiful patterns, in my opinion.

one to keep watching

One of the most talked about new collections this year is Whit by Whitney Pozgay. Whitney's experience as a designer for Kate Spade (who is also her aunt) and Steven Alan were obviously a brilliant combination that has helped her start her own line that's full of smart style and a playful attitude.

But what I also love, is seeing what designers are inspired by. Here are Whitney's current inspirations:

Where The Boys Are: Fashion Week S/S 2011

I've been running around backstage at a bunch of the shows covering hair and makeup, and while it's definitely inspiring, I started to O.D. on lanky girl models. Just in time, I popped backstage at Rad Hourani and caught the boy models in their hairnets...who doesn't love a good hairnet?

Here's a quick male call from the shows: The hair is pretty pouffy. Think boys will feel it come spring?

What I'm Eating: Torrisi

When running uptown, downtown, and around town all day shopping for clients, I need solid fuel to keep me going. Right now, there is no better nourishment than Torrisi's turkey sandwiches. Owner/chefs Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi's (formerly of the posh Café Boulud) house roasted turkey is sliced thick and topped with delightfully spicy harissa sauce. I prefer mine with a heaping bowl of fresh ricotta on the side so that I can add as much delicious cheese as possible. MMMmmm.

New York City Illuminated

One of my favorite things about New York City, are all the lights at night. There is a great view when you are driving (or riding in a cab) over a bridge headed home from a great night out and you turn around and see the lit up skyline.

So, this NIGHTSEEING Map from the Illuminating Engineering Society obviously caught my eye. It looks like a perfect self-guided walking tour of all the spectacular building and bridges to the unique art installations that are illuminated throughout the city.

I wish I had found this sooner, since I just had a friend visit NYC over the Labor Day weekend. Oh well, I’ll just have to test it out myself and suggest it next time.

One great find

I don't know about you, but I have a whole folder on my computer of great Etsy finds. After last nights dinner and drinks with a friend who just started a job with the company, I was inspired to revisit this folder.

I'm currently crushing on this beautiful jewelry Patricia Irla. It's simple, organic and perfect for the fall season.
