365 days of inspiration

Marisa Lynch of New Dress A Day is my own personal hero this week.  This girl turns 30, loses her job, has a Julie & Julia moment, and voila, a brilliant fashion project and blog is born!

365 days. 365 items of clothing. 365 dollars.

That's right. This California girl is forgoing any shopping for a year and is reinventing thrifted clothing in order to introduce a new item every day. Oh and just in case that wasn't hard enough, she's also on a $1 a day budget! Now if this doesn't make us all want to take a sewing class or dust off the old one, I don't know what will. Here are a couple of my favorite before and afters, but I suggest a good sit down to check then all out so far!

Pony Up!

Even though it was 90 degrees today, my thoughts have turned to everything fall: fall fashion (it's true, fall collections have arrived in stores), the crunch of fall leaves, the possibilities of a new fall scent, fall temperatures--especially fall temps, I'm ready for a crisp breeze! Out of this autumnal melange came the idea of new fall hair styles. Today, I'm feeling these fun riffs on the ponytail that I'm ready to rock come September: teased and messy, slicked back and sleek, fun and 80s, loose and chill, or with wild pops of color...

Etsy Find: LeilanniLand

One of my favorite evening activities is finding new designers on Etsy. There are limitless opportunities to find unique designers that are creating and designing one-of-a-kind pieces. Right now, I am totally into LeilanniLand. Check out my favorites below:

Anzfer Farms

I have always loved super organic looking furniture and designs. I think the appeal stems from the fact that the house my Dad built and I grew up in was filled with wood floors, cedar doors and countless other types of wooden furniture and objects.

So, when I stumbled across Anzfer Farms, it brought me to the past and into the future all at once. It’s a workshop and showroom in San Francisco where two talented friends, Jonathan Anzalone and Joseph Ferriso make furniture and objects with reclaimed wood in modern designs.

I love their affordable fragment lights, a perfect alternative to the basic lamp, which you can actually purchase on Etsy.

heavy metals

I have an unhealthy obsession with gray. I find myself always gravitating to it when making furniture and wall paint choices. The problem is that it can start to feel really masculine. Enter metallic accessories. I'm loving them for adding depth and dimension to a space, without adding much color. My favorites all have a patina and worn finish- no sequins or sparkles!

paintings to put you at ease

Douglas T. Foltz's paintings of the beach and coastlines remind me of where I grew up in New England and the mysterious play of light in the skies reminds me slightly of the English painter J.M.W. Turner. I could stare at these paintings all day.

Tangled Web

What came first, the beauty or the fashion trend? Does it even matter if they're both awesome? Not in my book! Case in point: Lace.

I noticed lace made an appearance in the spring, stuck around throughout the summer, and all signs point to lace continuing it's reign this fall. Lace adds a delicate, feminine touch but also can be pretty badass...leather and lace anyone? So mingle and interweave away, trends! I'm all for it!

50 Great Voices

David Redfern/Getty Images

Once a week throughout this year, NPR is producing a series called 50 Great Voices, which features well-known and niche-known great singers from around the world. While there are some familiar-sounding pipes in the shows aired thus far–people like Biggie Smalls, Janis Joplin, and Roy Orbinson–there are many artists that I have never heard before but can't wait to listen to and learn about. To me, nothing is more inspiring than music. Take a listen to some of my favorites so far:
