Reality Bites Redux

So...I ended up randomly watching Reality Bites over the weekend and who knows what I was smoking, but all I could think about was how Winona Ryder and Janeane Garofalo managed to totally rock red lips throughout the entire flick (even though their 90s style was ridiculously frumpy). Nice one, ladies.

Marfa, Texas

I've had two friends in the last week tell me they are packing their bags and heading to Marfa, Texas. The teeny west Texas town is about 8 hour road trip from good ol' Austin. I grew up going out to the artist enclave because my parents were in love with the place back when Donald Judd was just setting up shop, and Big Bend National Park has some of the best views and hiking south of the Mason Dixon line. The skies are huge, the space–plenty and the people, true salt of the earth.

If you are going, or daydreaming about a roadtrip, make sure you stay at the Thunderbird Hotel, eat at Food Shark (yes, food trucks have made it to the middle of no where), and check out the art at Ballroom Marfa. This is making me crave some wide open spaces.

Meredith Wendell: In The Bag

Meredith Wendell is an amazing handbag line that is now officially on my radar. Meredith and Wendell German founded the company in 2008 and it’s slowly gaining popularity for stylish and colorful Italian leather bags.

The collaboration with photographer Frederike Helwig and stylist Beth Fenton enhance their allure, showcasing images at the Greenbrier Hotel that look like photographs from a high fashion magazine.

I love the interior patterns mixed with the quirky ladylike clothing and of course the handbags!

Foam Party!

I've always been a big fan of Foam magazine (cheers to Johannah for cluing me in on the mag's existence): First because its killer surf vibe allows me to be an armchair surfer from my miniature apartment (a surfer girl can dream) and second, because it never fails to inspire. Case in point: All the pics below.

And let me just say, I'd snap up a surf trip in a second right now...I just need an angel investor. Anyone? Anyone?

Wrap Stars: Really been feeling the idea of a ponytail wrap lately.
Here, it plays double duty: Pigtails!

Pretty much the most perfect hair swoop!

Almost dried, post-surf, windblown hair paired with dewy skin and...a metal t-shirt?
Make it Def Leppard and I'm sold.

Wanting this Roxy 80's-esque b/w ruffle bikini. Again: Anyone? Anyone?

Sarah...the t-shirt with fringe has your name on!

Meet Chance

Maybe it's the weather forecast calling for snow this eve that has my mind at the beach. Or maybe, it's the brand new Chance by former kate spade EVP/Creative Director Julia Leach. I can not get enough of her classic new basics, everything from the perfect stripe shirt to a life changing sun hat. My wish list just keeps growing! Check out some of my favs:

Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty

Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty is the first book in a series of fairy tales combined with memoirs of modern designers and their illustrations to create a contemporary take on the classics.

The book is full of beautiful and fanciful images, many with the pink hues that are synonymous with Lacroix.

Here are a few images, but trust me, you’ll want to see the book from cover to cover for yourself.
